Having healthy hard and soft tissues around the root of the tooth is mandatory for maintaining the health and integrity of teeth. “periodontal treatment” refers to the various procedures done to reverse the changes occurred due to the poor maintenance of gums, oral mucous membrane, and bone structure as well

Gum problems are often ignored by many patients as pain is not the first complaint in these cases. By the time patient realizes pain most of the damage would have already happened.

‘’PERIODONTITIS’’ is more advanced stage of gum problems, and is characterised by the following

  • Spontaneous bleeding
  • Pocket formation ( considerable amount of gap develops between tooth root and gum with exposing bone )
  • Mobility of teeth varying from mild to moderate to severe

Various treatment procedures done to improve health of gums and bone

  • Cleaning / scaling – Supra gingival or above the gum level
    – Sub gingival or below the gum level
  • Periodontal or flap surgery
  • Bone grafting or reconstructive osseous surgery
  • Muco- gingival surgery
